A second head is key. Or, if you want to think about it differently, another opinion is key. I’m realizing this more and more. Finally, letting the absolute fact seep in that the ideas in my head might require some editing. Some polishing. But there’s a criterium in these things. They have to want to listen, know you and your “process” somewhat, and know something about the industries you’re working toward.
That last one is the big key, however. Someone that has read and recognizes the comic book or novel form well enough to tell you when something works and when it’s ‘Passions’, the worst soap opera ever conceived. They have to recognize that your idea has been done or is just crap and when you’ve hit on something unique and need to push yourself to get it done.
And that doesn’t just go for writing. This is a standard for most, if not all creative ventures. Thine auditor be your guide should be plastered to your wall. As a reminder and a law for others you might end up helping out.
Oh, and it helps when you love and respect each other. That’s something too.
